The Director, Criminal Justice Programs works in collaboration with the Dean, ADASA, Director of Recruitment, Director of Advising, Director of Admissions, and faculty, among others, to carry out the mission and goals of the Criminal Justice programs. The Director, Criminal Justice Programs may have direct reports, including Program Directors, Assistant Program Directors, etc. As a general rule, any staff person devoting more than 50% of their time to a specific program will report to the Director. The role of Director, Criminal Justice Programs is an at-will administrative appointment, subject to removal of the administrative role (but not the faculty appointment) at any time. The Distribution of Effort (DOE) for the Director, Criminal Justice Programs varies and is set each year, in partnership with the Office of the Dean. In general, Director appointments are three years, with options to renew in three-year cycles. The ADASA, in conjunction with the Office of the Dean, will lead an annual review of Director service. If the annual review concludes that the Director has not adroitly balanced the administrative commitment with other responsibilities, the Director, in consultation with the Offices of the ADASA and the Dean, will seek another candidate for the position. Primary Responsibilities/Major Areas of Emphasis: Leadership and Supervision <ul><li>Conceptualize and communicate vision, priorities, and goals for the Criminal Justice programs.</li><li>Represent CoSW Criminal Justice interests at relevant, appropriate, international, national, and state venues.</li><li>Provide supervision and mentorship to faculty and staff assigned to the Criminal Justice Programs.</li></ul> Student Support and Experience <ul><li>Stay abreast of contemporary challenges and opportunities associated with undergraduate and graduate students (to include stewardship); engage with Director of SEE to address challenges and exploit opportunities.</li><li>Actively participate in development activities focused on building scholarship support for Criminal Justice students; collaborate to actualize service development and deployment of these services, including student recruitment, retention, persistence, advising, and alumni engagement.</li></ul> Strategic Planning and Program Development <ul><li>Lead the deployment of new programmatic efforts associated with the Criminal Justice programs.</li><li>Develop strategic plans and frameworks consistent with programmatic goal attainment, and the broader CoSW and University plans.</li></ul> Personnel and Resource Procurement and Oversight <ul><li>Build, submit, and track annual budget requests to the Office of the Dean.</li><li>Recruit and support faulty and PTIs assigned to the Criminal Justice programs.</li><li>Participate in personnel reviews and assessments.</li></ul> Quality Control and Reporting <ul><li>Establish and lead quality assurance reviews and process/procedures, with strict adherence to accreditation and university requirements.</li><li>Provide performance and other reports associated with the Criminal Justice programs.</li></ul> The Director will serve on the CoSW Academic Leadership Council and the CoSW Leadership Team As well, the Director serves as an ex officio member of the following college committees: Admissions, Advising, and Student Concerns Committee and the Curriculum Committee. Other assignments may be outlined in the DOE (e.g., research, teaching, and service as assigned by the Dean) As a member of CoSW faculty, this is a 9-month, tenure eligible, open rank position in the Regular Title Series. Job Summary The Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment (M-G CAFE) at the University of Kentucky (UK) invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the UK Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (UKVDL) located in Lexington, KY. The UKVDL Director will lead the team of faculty and staff of a full-service, American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD) accredited, National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) tier 2 laboratory with operations running seven days a week. The laboratory includes the following sections: bacteriology, clinical pathology, diagnostic services, epidemiology, histology, information technology, molecular biology, next-generation sequencing, quality assurance/control, pathology, ruminant extension, serology, toxicology and virology. The UKVDL mission is to develop and apply state-of-the-art diagnostic methodology to improve animal health and marketability, to protect the public health and to assist in the preservation of the human-animal bond through the principles of One Health. The University of Kentucky Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory strives to be the leading veterinary diagnostic service, research and teaching laboratory in the United States through the application of peer-reviewed, validated scientific methodology and quality control systems. The UKVDL serves as one of the premier veterinary diagnostic laboratories in the United States, providing timely and accurate services in support of the practicing veterinary profession, livestock agriculture, the signature equine industries, the poultry industry and backyard flock operations, companion animals, wildlife, and zoo animals. The UKVDL was established in 1970 by the State Legislature of Kentucky and is charged with safeguarding the health of animal agriculture in Kentucky via veterinary diagnostic testing and disease identification/confirmation. The UKVDL laboratory is part of the FDA Veterinary Laboratory Investigation Response Network. Essential Functions: The Director is responsible for oversight of all laboratory operational activities including: 1) budget development, 2) management and supervision of professional and technical staff, and 3) maintaining compliance of the quality management system program to preserve and ensure AAVLD accreditation. Within the university, the Director works closely with the UK Gluck Equine Research Center, the UK Department of Animal and Food Sciences, the UK Division of Laboratory Animal Resources, and other UK academic units. Given the agricultural landscape within Kentucky and the surrounding regions, the Director regularly interacts with the Office of the Kentucky State Veterinarian, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, the USDA Area Veterinarian in Charge, the Kentucky Department of Fish &amp; Wildlife Resources, the Kentucky Cabinet for Health Infectious Disease Branch, the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association, and the Murray State University Breathitt Veterinary Center. The Director maintains close working relationships with industry stakeholders.
