Purpose of Position Essential Functions Utilize diagnostic tools and scanner equipment to identify issues across all vehicle systems, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fuel, emissions, cooling, and HVAC. Perform comprehensive repairs and overhauls on critical vehicle components such as engines, transmissions, fuel injectors, alternators, starters, pumps, radiators, heater cores, air compressors, and air conditioning units. Perform brake adjustments or replacements, mount and balance wheels, and repair suspension systems, including shock absorbers and struts. Rewire ignition systems, lighting, and instrument panels as needed. Inspect and maintain batteries, electrical charging, and starting circuits. Replace or adjust belts, filters, and spark plugs as part of routine maintenance. Perform routine maintenance tasks such as engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotations, wheel balancing, and filter replacements. Transport vehicles to authorized state inspection vendors to ensure compliance with inspection requirements. Coordinate the outsourcing of vehicle repairs and transport vehicles to external shops as needed. Conduct test drives to verify serviceability and adjust controls and systems as needed. Maintain accurate service records using the department's fleet management software. Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including emissions and safety standards. Maintain and troubleshoot shop equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and coordinate necessary repairs. Stay current with industry advancements by participating in educational opportunities and reviewing technical publications. Must be available on an “On Call” basis. Overtime may be required. Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems. Complies with all State and University policies. Other duties may be assigned.
