The instructor is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation (develop curricula and instructional material; prepare course syllabi), presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. The Assistant Professor is also responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend on any Southwest Tennessee Community College campus as assigned. At a minimum, the related activities include instruction; instructional counseling, academic advising, serving on various committees, participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations.
Job Duties
<ul>
<li>Prepares and delivers lectures.</li>
<li>Compiles, administers, evaluates and grades students' class work, laboratory work, assignments, tests, and papers fairly and consistently; and keep students informed about their progress through the prompt grading of papers and other work.</li>
<li>Maintains office hours for students seeking advice on class work, assignments, papers, and others.</li>
<li>Advises and counsels students in academic and career fields.</li>
<li>Participates in departmental and college committees; and provides outreach service to the community.</li>
<li>Attends all faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as called by the President, Dean or Department Chair.</li>
<li>Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.</li>
<li>Maintains accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records.</li>
<li>May perform other duties as assigned by Department Head/Dean.</li>
</ul>
Minimum Qualifications
<ul>
<li>Master’s degree in Speech, Oratory/Rhetoric, Communication or Mass Communication or 18 graduate semester hours in Speech, Oratory/Rhetoric, Communication, Mass Communication or Speech-related Theatre courses plus a Master’s degree in any discipline. 
</li>
<li>Two (2) years of teaching or equivalent experience 
</li>
<li>A background check will be required for the successful candidate.</li>
</ul>
Preferred Qualifications
<ul>
<li>Two (2) years of teaching, or equivalent, at a higher education institution </li>
</ul>

<ul>
<li>Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation.
