Reports any facility issues to the Director.Demonstrate proficiency in ABSL1, ABSL2 procedures and successfully complete training provided to work in an ABSL3 environment if not already proficient.Assist in performing sanitation monitoring via bacterial culture swabs, plating or other sampling techniques as required.Report facility and environmental issues that fall outside animal welfare regulatory requirements (as defined in the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals) to the Attending Veterinarian and ensure prompt correction of deviations.Assist in initiation of work orders for repairs to the facility/equipment as needed.A strong knowledge of animal husbandry standards and regulatory guidelines and requirements, standard operating procedures for species of animals used in behavioral and biomedical research, and special handling techniques for biohazardous or infectious materials; ABSL3 experience is desirable, and certification is required within 12 months of hire.Weekend and holiday work may be required.Perform other duties as assigned.Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.Complies with all State and University policies.Supervisory Responsibilities: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Associate/Full Professor in Immunology/InflammationThe Department of Biological Sciences at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) invites applications for a tenured Associate or Full Professor position in immunology, with an emphasis in systemic chronic inflammation and aging. Addressing health disparities and inequities that contribute to chronic disease development is a critical national priority, especially in Hispanic persons who suffer from extensive health disparities and often are characterized by earlier and worse chronic disease progression. UTEP is a focal point for education and biomedical research for Hispanics living on the US-Mexico border and has been intentional in supporting Hispanic Health Disparities research initiatives. UTEP is poised to become a national leader in this critical area of biomedical research by establishing an advanced health database. The successful candidate should have a strong track record of extramural funding, with significant experience with mentoring leadership, directorship, and participation in large center grant programs. Faculty hired into the rank of tenured full professor will be given the additional honorific title of Regents' Distinguished Research Professor; faculty hired into the rank of associate professor can earn this title upon promotion to full professor with tenure.The Department of Biological Sciences offers two Ph.D. tracks (Bioscience and Ecology/Evolution) and has over 100 graduate students and over 2000 majors. The department boasts multiple state-of-the-art core facilities with full-time staff and BSL3/ABSL3 and research facilities.
