Adjunct Nursing Faculty - Simulation

Reporting directly to the Dean/Program Director of Occupational Therapy, the Lab-Teaching Assistant assists faculty with lab sessions, grading assignments and tests. Responsible for performing teaching and teaching-related duties. Preparing labs for class and/or practicals, monitoring student progress and facilitating student participation in learning activities. The Lab/Teaching Assistant communicates with the lead instructor regarding student performance or issues that arise and ensures the delivery of consistent content and testing. The Lab-Teaching assistant may assist with grading practicals and other required assignments.Essential Functions and Responsibilities<ul><li>Assist course coordinator with lab set-up, leave the classroom or laboratory clean organized and ready for next user.</li><li>Evaluate and grade examinations, assignments, or papers and record grades. Evaluate student work.</li><li>Conduct and grade practicals.</li><li>Participate in applicant interviews.</li><li>Work with the instructor to coordinate final grades for all students on the class roster.</li><li>Obtain materials needed for class.</li><li>Prepare presentations for and deliver lectures.</li><li>Tutor or mentor students.</li><li>May perform other duties as assigned.</li></ul>Preferred Education, Certifications and Licensures Preferred Experience and Skills<ul><li>The ability to demonstrate bilingual skills is preferred.</li></ul>Required Education, Certifications, and Licensures<ul><li>A master of Science in Occupational Therapy is required.</li><li>Certified by NBCOT (The National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy) as an OTR (Registered Occupational Therapist) required.</li><li>Licensed as an Occupational Therapist in the State of California is required.</li><li>Membership with the Occupational Therapy Association of California (OTAC) is required.</li><li>Membership with the American Occupational Therapy Association is required.</li><li>Must meet and maintain the qualifications and standards set forth by any accreditation body that West Coast University is accredited by or in process of obtaining accreditation from, for area of expertise and expectations of faculty members as outlined in regulatory documents.</li><li>Must maintain any professional certifications deemed necessary to meet the requirements of the teaching role.</li><li>Current certification in basic life support procedures including healthcare provides CPR with an Automated External Defibrillator.</li><li>Health certifications for an OSHA Category I classified position (potential for exposure to infectious diseases at work). As an essential component of the West Coast University infection-control program immunizations and tuberculosis clearance documentation is required by current CDC and OSHA recommendations and guidelines for Health-Care Personnel. Below are health certification details which are subject to change as required by OSHA and CDC.</li><li>Immunizations - based on the CDC Recommended Immunizations for Health-Care Personnel (HCP), all HCPs must submit documentation of immunization to Hepatitis B (series of three doses with anti-HBs serologic testing 1-2 months after dose #3), proof of immunity to Hepatitis B, or a signed declination; Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR); Varicella (chickenpox); and Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (booster every 10 years). Highly recommended immunizations for the HCP include Influenza (yearly), Hepatitis A, and Pneumonia. For some individuals, a titer test will be indicated vs. vaccinations. Titer tests showing immunity to listed pathogens are acceptable. Titer tests showing a negative response require appropriate immunizations and follow-up titers must be completed and submitted. If one or more of the listed immunizations are contraindicated, documentation must be submitted clearly identifying the reason(s). Clinical laboratory reports with facility stamp and medical doctor's signature are required.</li><li>Tuberculosis Clearance - the CDC Guidelines for Preventing the Transmission of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Health-Care Settings are intended to protect the HCP and patients. The TB screening program consists of two major components: (1) baseline single test for M. tuberculosis infection and (2) serial testing/screening for M. tuberculosis infection. The HCP must have a baseline single test followed by serial skin testing every 6 months. If the HCP has a baseline positive result or has previously had a positive result, a chest radiograph must be completed to exclude a diagnosis of TB disease. Thereafter, every 6 months the HCP must receive a symptom screen. As a Nursing Faculty member for a certified Great Place to Work, you will guide nursing students to do more than change their own lives – you will help change the lives of every patient they treat throughout their career in healthcare. &nbsp;At West Coast University you will have the opportunity to share your success story with the next generation of nurses as a key member of our student-centered, innovative community!Weekly day time hours.You will make an impact by: &nbsp;<ul><li>Serving as a mentor, role model and facilitator who provides guidance and academic support for students. </li><li>Demonstrating enthusiasm for teaching, the teaching/learning process and for individual students.</li><li>Applying your skills and experience to your assigned teaching schedule.</li><li>Participating in and contributing to assessment activities of courses/curriculum and programs via a continuous improvement plan set forth by the University.</li><li>Regularly contributing to improvement of class materials and syllabi within prescribed shared governance culture.</li><li>Utilizing a variety of teaching methodologies to instruct students, always with intent to facilitate observable evidence of student fulfillment of prescribed learning outcomes.</li><li>Maintaining scholarly activities.</li><li>Participating in professional growth and service in accordance with university policies.</li><li>Advancing our commitment and focus on the students we serve, and their success as healthcare professionals.</li><li>Fully leveraging our innovative technologies and resources, such as our Simulation and Innovation Labs.</li><li>*If working with students in a Clinical setting you will:<ul><li>Assume complete responsibility for students in clinical facilities. </li><li>Clarify clinical expectations with students.</li><li>Clarify student placement and expectations with clinical facility staff.</li><li>Utilize care planning time to direct students to available resources needed for clinical preparation. </li><li>Assess student knowledge and skill level to ensure safety and optimal care to patients.</li><li>Utilize pre- and post- conference to allow students an opportunity to share learned experiences, ensuring clarity of the correlation between &nbsp;weekly theory content with clinical objectives and experiences.</li><li>Provide feedback of clinical performance immediately after observation of event and of overall performance at midterm and end of semester.</li></ul></li></ul>Your Experience Includes: &nbsp;<ul><li>Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Products, especially Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and other MS office products as needed.</li><li>Working with online learning management systems to further engage the student learning process.</li><li>Compliance with state, federal and local laws/regulations relating to programs, governmental compliance, and other regulatory standards such as state Board of Nursing.</li><li>Clinical RN - Must have a minimum of two (2) year’s prior experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care and have a minimum of one year experience in the field in which they teach.</li></ul>Education: Education and experience must align with state regulations and comply with the rules and regulations of state authorization agencies.<ul><li>Master’s degree in nursing</li><li>Professional nurse licensure required.</li></ul>#HEJDo you want a career that allows you to make a difference in other people’s lives?
