Accountant
UIW Mission
Position Summary
The Accountant is instrumental in ensuring the University of the Incarnate Word and related entities are in compliance with tax and debt regulations, reporting requirements, and provides annual audit support. The Accountant analyzes and reconciles various accounts and serves as a resource/liaison to academic and administrative departments. The Accountant reports to the Director of Financial Operations.

- Ability to interpret and analyze financial documents and reports.
- Possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments, in order to meet concurrent deadlines.
- Ability to embrace challenges and possess the initiative to tackle new assignments with attention to detail and continuous improvement.
- Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications including databases, spreadsheets, and/or word processing.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and use rational judgment in making work-related decisions.
- Knowledge of non-profit accounting.
- Knowledge of non-profit tax reporting.
- Proficient in computer system applications.
- Knowledge of tax software.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.
Required Work Experience
Two (2) years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in accounting.
- CPA.
- Experience in higher education or other non-profit settings.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
None.
Work Hours
Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional weekends and/or after hours as required.
Physical Demands
- Ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 20 lbs to assist with movement/storage of files/documents.
- Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.
