
Adjunct Faculty - Art Appreciation
SUMMARY:
South University is seeking a highly motivated and qualified adjunct faculty member to teach undergraduate or graduate-level courses in Art Appreciation and Art History. The ideal candidate will have expertise in art appreciation and art history and will be able to foster an engaging, interactive classroom environment. This role requires the ability to connect with students, support their academic growth, and inspire them to develop effective communication skills.
KEY JOB ELEMENTS:
- Instruction: Teach undergraduate courses in Art Appreciation and Art History, which may include topics such as the role of art in society, foundational concepts of the visual arts, the history of art genres and styles, and contemporary art.
- Course Preparation: Develop and deliver course materials, including lectures, assignments, quizzes, and exams. Ensure course content aligns with the curriculum and university standards andadapt materials to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Student Engagement: Create an inclusive and dynamic learning environment that encourages active participation, critical thinking, and constructive discussion. Promote communication strategies that are practical and applicable in real-world scenarios.
- Assessment and Grading: Evaluate and grade student assignments, exams, and projects in a timely manner. Provide constructive feedback to help students improve their communication skills.
- Office Hours and Student Support: Hold regular office hours to meet with students for academic advising, clarification of course material, and support with assignments. Offer guidance on improving communication techniques, presentation skills, and other relevant topics.
- Collaboration: Work with other faculty members and staff to enhance the communications curriculum and contribute to the academic development of students. Attend faculty meetings and participate in academic activities as needed.
- Professional Development: Stay current with trends and innovations in art history and art appreciation. Incorporate new methods and technologies into teaching strategies to enhance student learning experiences.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s degree or higher in Art History,Fine Arts with Art History/Art Theory focus, Visual Studies, Aesthetics, Museum Studies, or a closely related fieldrequired. Ph.D. is preferred.
- Previous teaching experience at the university level is preferred.
- A demonstrated ability to teach and engage students in diverse topics within art history and art appreciation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Expertise in using digital media and communication platforms in teaching, such as online learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas).
- Ability to create engaging and interactive course content that appeals to various learning styles.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time, grading, and student communication effectively.
