Position Description
Program Management
- With limited direction, manages operations for a suite of public service programs with partnerships in the US and abroad.
- This role is primarily responsible for managing the Stad Fellowship
- This role attends meetings and acts as the program's spokesperson to students, partners at Harvard, and those in the community.
- This role also supports several programs including: the Mindich Service Fellowship Program, the Harvard Clubs Summer Community Service Fellowship Program, the Arthur Liman Public Interest Law Fellowship Program, the SPARK program for prematriculated students, the Fong Family Winternship Program, Fellows at the Forefront, and the Priscilla Chan Summer Service Stipend.
Student Advising & Recruiting
- Advises students about civic pathways related to term-time, summer, winter, and post-graduate work in the government and political sphere.
- Develops and executes publicity and marketing strategies to recruit students for leadership and professional development opportunities
- Oversee and lead the application review process for the Stad Fellowship Program.
- Develops resources to engage all students with an emphasis on supporting incoming first-year students and students from underrepresented communities.
- Host drop-in office hours and virtual student check-ins to advise students throughout their fellowship experiences and navigate challenges that emerge within their placements.
Community Partnership Development
- Develops and maintains partnerships with partners in the community related to term time, summer, winter, and post-graduate programs.
- Represents the program within the community.
- Conducts site visits to create new partnerships and/or assess existing partnerships in collaboration with the program director
- Collaborates closely with other departments on campus to support joint programming, joint-funding awards, campus conferences, and regionally based partnerships and programs
- Collaborate with campus partners to sustain cross-departmental initiatives and support campus conferences and events.
- Serve on the Public Service Career Advisors Committee.
Communications
- Send targeted outreach to diverse student groups for public service fellowship opportunities.
- Act as a program spokesperson at recruitment events and present the program to potential internal and external partners.
- Manages social media efforts, with a focus on efforts that connect students to professional development opportunities
- Manage and regularly update the program’s website and all related content
Leads Events
- Leads in-person and virtual events connecting program participants with donors, alumni, and guests.
- Supports departmental events. Some of these events currently include Public Service Recruiting Day, the First-Year Day of Service, SPARK, a series of alumni engagement activities & others.
Budgetary/Financial Responsibility
- Operationally manages the Stad Fellowship budget
- Connects with Harvard College and Financial Aid office to obtain student financial need levels.
- Oversees payment trackers and monitors spending.
- Ensures compliance with University policies and procedures regarding student payments
Data Management, Reporting, and Evaluation:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date databases of current students and alumni; Conduct assessments at key program intervals to evaluate programs’ efficacy
- Generates reports from evaluations to inform department strategy
- Implements and recommends changes in program policies and procedures
- Contribute to the creation of the CPSES annual report and other important departmental and center-wide reports and presentations.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
- Familiarity with careers in U.S. government, politics, or campaigns preferred
- Familiarity in working in Higher Education
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel skills
- Ability to work with students, student organizations, colleagues, clients and external organizations
- Communication skills (both written and verbal)
Physical Requirements
- Sitting using near vision use for reading and computer use for extended periods of time
- Lifting (approximately 20 to 30 pounds), bending, and other physical exertion
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in an office setting
- May be required to work nights and weekends
- Occasional travel to visit partner organizations, including local, out-of-state, and potentially international partners
Work Format Details
This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
