Position Overview

The Benefits Administrator is responsible for directing and planning the day-to-day operations of group benefits programs (group health, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, worker's compensation, life insurance, travel and accident plan, flexible spending plan, HSA, 401(k) plan and retirement plan). As well as administration of Workers Compensation and Leaves of Absence.

This support includes, but is not limited to, researching and resolving employee issues, submitting changes within the HRIS system, investigating and resolving weekly errors produced from carrier interfaces, and coordinating programs such as our Annual Wellness Fair, Monthly Benefit Meetings, 401(k) Meetings, etc.

The Benefits Administrator is an integral member of our Human Resources department and will interact with brokers and vendors, oversee Annual Open Enrollment, and perform internal special projects as needed.

This position may be remote with occasional in-office work at our Burbank office as needed.

Core Responsibilities

  • Performs day to day administration of employee benefit programs, such as group insurance, life/AD&D, medical, vision, dental, disability, flexible spending accounts, and retirement plans.
  • Performs data input of human resources information into the HRIS system, spreadsheets, and/or databases as required
  • Resolve eligibility/coverage discrepancies between employees and insurance companies
  • Reconciliation of monthly vendor invoices for payment
  • Explains employee benefits by conducting meetings; preparing written and graphic announcements and explanations; responding to requests.
  • Interprets policies and procedures when employees have questions.
  • Provides assistance to specific benefit specialties including but not limited to leave of absence, Workers Compensation, or COBRA; including meetings with employees, notification, follow-up and audits of these programs
  • Acts as primary interface and contact with disability insurance providers, State agencies, and Third Party Administrators
  • Implement wellness related activities, such as but not limited to, scheduling onsite activities, flu clinics, biometrics and coordinating vendor visits to satellite offices.
  • Keep up-to-date of current national wellness trends, developing a network of resources to use as appropriate. Explore ideas and opportunities to personalize the wellness program to increase employee participation.
  • Participates in meetings with Broker, Providers and Vendors
  • Assist with benefit compliance-related projects
  • Assist in the preparation of the company’s regulatory reports such as EEO-1, Form 5500/Annual Returns
  • Provides payroll backup when needed and assists with auditing of payroll system
  • Other tasks and special projects as needed

Key Qualifications

  • Experience administering retirement, health and welfare benefits
  • Discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information; strong ethics and ability to exercise good judgment
  • Resourceful, with ability to work well independently as well as with a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Quick learner who takes initiative and ownership for work
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks or projects

  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills including the ability to interpret/analyze data
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, particularly with Excel.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, workers' compensation, Medicare, COBRA, and Social Security and DOL requirements.
  • Prior experience with ADP WFN

Special Work Conditions

  • Sedentary – Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Some positions may entail exerting up to 15 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, or pull.

Compensation is commensurate with various factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skills, training, licensure, certifications, geographic cost of labor, and other business and organizational needs. Compensation range for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location. The compensation range for this position is: $30.00 - $33.00 per hour.
