Job Summary
The CELT TA works directly with the director and staff of the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) to support engaging and innovative approaches to teaching and learning across the disciplines. The effort of the CELT TA spans two areas of responsibility: (1) delivering and assisting in the delivery of CELT services, and (2) supporting and participating in CELT projects, partnerships, and initiatives.
Founded in 2010, CELT works collaboratively with instructors, staff, and administrators at the University of Kentucky to support engaging and innovative learning environments in which all students and instructors have the opportunity to succeed. We work with individuals, groups, cohorts, departments, colleges, administrative offices, and University-wide initiatives to build on our collective wisdom and realize new possibilities for teaching and learning at the University of Kentucky. Working with CELT leadership and professional staff, the CELT TA participates in instructional consultations, mid-semester student feedback sessions, events and workshops, data collection and management, communication and outreach, and assessment. CELT maintains a robust partnership with the Graduate School’s Office of Graduate Student Professional Enhancement, and the CELT TA collaborates with this office in the delivery of programs in support of graduate instructors and TAs across the University. Other CELT areas of focus that the TA may support are the CELT Teaching Innovation Institute, faculty learning communities, and international faculty development projects.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
REQUIRED: At least one year supporting undergraduate student learning; ability to work and communicate with faculty, staff, and students; excellent written and verbal communication skills; effective organizational skills; ability to work collaboratively with a team of diverse thinkers and communicators; self-motivation and ability to work autonomously; a willingness to learn and think creatively; professionalism in academic work environments.
PREFERRED: At least two years experience teaching as a TA or instructor of record; experience leading workshops or small group conversations related to teaching or learning support; experience with data analysis; familiarity or experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite programs.
