Chief Financial Officer and Vice President for Finance and Administration
UIW Mission
Position Summary
TThe University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) seeks a mission-driven, experienced, highly collegial, and collaborative finance leader to serve as its next Chief Financial Officer and Vice President for Finance and Administration (VPFA).
In 1881, the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word founded Incarnate Word College as a center of higher education for young women in San Antonio, TX. The College was admitted to membership in the Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools in 1919 and joined the Texas Association of Colleges as a senior college in 1920. Today, UIW is the largest Catholic university in Texas and serves approximately 10,000 students globally. UIW is a Hispanic-Serving Institution with 54% of its students coming from Hispanic/Latino heritage. The institution has grown into a large, complex university with 11 colleges and schools that offer more than 125 majors, minors, and concentrations at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The University works with 22 different agencies which have accredited 46 separate degree programs, including a comprehensive collection of health sciences programs (nursing, optometry, pharmacy, osteopathic medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and athletic training). UIW has multiple campuses across San Antonio, locations in Mexico and France, and a growing set of online and distance offerings through its School of Professional Studies.
As the University continues to advance strategic priorities that were set forth in 2018 and approaches its 150th anniversary, it has embarked on a strategic planning process focused on identifying opportunities to further advance its mission. President Evans identified a number of potential opportunities for UIW in a February 2024 position paper, Embodying the Mission in a New Era, including better attracting, retaining, and serving students; enhancing the academic experience and UIW's academic standing through research (especially faculty-student research); and leveraging the strengths and areas of synchronicity across the UIW system. The University has engaged constituents during the 2024 spring semester and will continue discussions over the course of the 2024-25 academic year so that the next VPFA can engage in the strategic planning process.
