We are seeking an experienced and motivated Construction Engineering Manager to join our team and lead construction engineering and inspection efforts in Northern Indiana. This role is responsible for managing a team of construction engineers, inspectors, and project supervisors, ensuring the successful delivery of infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical background in construction engineering and inspection, proven leadership and project management capabilities, and a passion for delivering high-quality, safe, and efficient construction outcomes.

Key responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Department Leadership: Leading and managing a regional team of construction engineering staff, including project supervisors, engineers, and inspectors. Providing technical guidance, mentoring team members, and conducting performance appraisals. Fostering a positive workplace culture and ensuring professional development of staff. Coordinating and facilitating project meetings (e.g., pre-construction, progress, pre-final inspections, etc.). Identifying staffing needs, participating in recruiting and hiring, and ensuring effective resource allocation. Ensuring compliance with safety protocols, quality standards, and ethical practices. Staying current with industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes.
  • Project Oversight: Overseeing the effective management of multiple construction projects to ensure timely and within-budget delivery. Planning, organizing, and directing construction team activities, including project supervision and construction oversight. Serving as construction engineer and/or project manager on projects. Overseeing and ensuring the quality and safety of the project teams.
  • Client and Stakeholder Relations: Building and maintaining strong client relationships and seeking out new business opportunities. Coordinating with clients, contractors, stakeholders, and agencies to ensure regulatory compliance. Leading or participating in project meetings with contractors, clients, and other stakeholders. Assisting with proposal development.
  • Fiscal and Budget Management: Actively working to improve productivity and efficiency and addressing project concerns. Collaborating on budget development, implementing cost control measures, and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
  • Performing other duties as needed.

Qualifications for this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a closely related field preferred.
  • Professional Engineer License (PE) preferred.
  • Typically requires 15+ years of progressive experience in construction engineering, project management, and inspection; however, candidates with less years of experience who possess the necessary capabilities and qualifications will be considered.
  • Extensive experience working on INDOT projects.
  • Proven leadership, organizational, and technical decision-making capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of state and federal regulations for road, bridge, and sewer construction, including inspection practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of quality requirements for construction materials.
  • Proficiency in mathematics, trigonometry, and geometry.
  • Ability to interpret construction plans and specifications and apply specification regulations for compliance.
