How will you make an impact in this role?

Responsible for engineering, modification, and providing over-sight/management of one or more of the following: Data Center Building Automation Controls and Management software, Mechanical Systems, Electrical Distribution System, Diesel Power Generation Systems, UPS Systems and UPS Battery System. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing frequency-based preventive maintenance, performance testing, problem resolution and remediation of failed components and/or systems. This person will perform equipment hardware and software diagnostics, develop and implement corrective actions, as well as coordinating and communicating resolution expectations with 3rd party vendors. They should be capable of applying skilled knowledge to address sophisticated problems; often facilitated, solely, by referencing manufacturers' manuals, engineered drawings, schematics, or similar documents. Daily work activities require an understanding of the interrelationships between various critical facility systems and improving efficiency through changes in equipment operational characteristics. They will also support other roles and department teams across a variety of critical facility infrastructure and systems (e.g. - mechanical and electrical systems maintenance).

This person will collaborate with leadership, project managers, peers, customers and strategic partners to raise operational availability risks, provides detailed recommendations, drives resolution, addresses business priorities, new products or services and implements problem-solving solutions which requires good judgment and quick action. Role expectations are also inclusive of developing and implementing policy, standards, and procedures. This role will report directly to the Data Center Infrastructure Senior Service Delivery Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Working night shift, specifically 4X10hr nights, either Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday.
    • Fulfill the primary responsibilities associated with this role, which is supporting the raised floor power equipment environment.
    • Perform and deliver the following: building, installing and terminating of raised floor power cables. End-to-end process where candidate is expected to use electrical knowledge to building power cables per equipment specifications, install them under the raised floor environment and terminate into electrical infrastructure.
    • Perform electrical power equipment, electrical industry best practices, proficiency in electrical metering equipment, familiarity with the National Electrical Code and NFPA 70E.
    • Perform routine thermal scanning of electrical equipment.
    • Perform routine repair and maintenance activities on facility electrical infrastructure.
    • 3rd party vendor/cross-vendor over-sight and engagement
    • Develop, maintain, and enhance detailed installation and preventative maintenance procedures, operational training program and evaluation criteria while maintaining program integrity and confidentiality. Apply expertise and experience to analyze various data center component and system configurations to optimize performance; providing research findings and recommendations to leadership for review/alignment prior to implementation.
    • Examine failures for trends and factors of failure, developing and/or performing corrective actions independently. Identify root cause, conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation plans.
    • Use sophisticated data capture and recording equipment to analyze data; make timely and effective decisions; provide findings and proposals to leadership and implement aligned upon solutions.
    • Provide 7x24 on-call, rotational support during facility/site emergency response related events if/when needed/required.
    • Provide proactive participation and engagement with leadership to coordinate, establish workflow deliveries and/or on-site staffing priorities/needs.
    • Proactively communicate data center availability risks to DCI leadership.
    • Support leaders in crafting, implementing, and supervising compliance across aligned upon policy, standards and procedures.
    • Lead internal and vendor resources while completing and supervising workflow queues.
    • Cross-train and/or mentor technicians and peers in relevant skills to support succession planning and skills development.

Minimum Qualifications:

    • High School
    • Experience in Tier III-IV data center environments working with electrical plant operations, including conceptual knowledge of the interaction between multiple, large systems and the potential impact of minor changes in any of those systems.
    • 3+ years of Journeyman level electrician or equivalent experience with the following systems: branch circuits, electrical distribution, low voltage electrical, paralleling switchgear, complex electrical distribution systems (e.g. – 12.47kV, 5kV, 575V or 480V switchgear, DC distribution systems, static and automatic transfer switches and schemes).

Preferred Qualifications:

    • AAS, vocational, trade school education, certification and/or equivalent experience in associated data center environment (e.g. - electrical, electronics, data processing hardware, telecommunications and/or networks).
    • Conceptual knowledge of the interaction between multiple, large systems and the potential impact of minor changes in any of those systems.
    • Intermediate knowledge and experience with cabling standards and quality practices.
    • Intermediate knowledge of critical environments and data processing-based systems/equipment with analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
    • Solid understanding and use of Microsoft Office Suite desktop applications.
    • System/platform domain knowledge.
    • Previous experience as Journeyman level electrician or equivalent.

Salary Range: $24.66 to $36.25 hourly + bonus + benefits
