Position Information
Hiring Department: College of Liberal Arts
Posting End Date: Open until filled.
Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends
FLSA status: Exempt
Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.
Salary: $65,000 - $68,000, commensurate with experience.

Purpose of Position
Summary:Directs, coordinates, implements, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of projects within area of assigned responsibility.
The Director of Advising is responsible for leading a team of professional advisors dedicated to the academic success and well-being of undergraduate students. The Director oversees and manages the daily operations of the advising office (College of Liberal Arts Student Success - C.L.A.S.S. Center) including supervising the staff and collaborating with the dean's office, the provost's office, academic departments, and campus partners to implement the integrated and holistic advising model. The Director is an advocate for student success with a strong commitment to academic excellence and student persistence by facilitating seamless pathways to degree completion.
Essential Functions
Leads and implements strategies and goals that support student success, persistence, and degree completion as outlined in UTEP's holistic and integrated advising model.
Coordinates assessment of advising policies and processes; analyzes academic data, advising and student success metrics, and trends or barriers to student persistence to develop strategies for improvement.
Evaluates advising workflows and tolls including integration of appropriate technology to enhance advising processes and the student experience.
Manages daily and organizational operations of the advising office (CLASS Center) including scheduling, resource allocation, and staff development.
Recruits, hires, trains, and mentors a team of professional advisors, fostering a positive and productive work environment. Promotes best practices in advising to ensure positive experiences and holistic support for students through graduation.
Coordinates with campus advising leaders and enrollment services to facilitate positive, seamless advising at freshman and transfer orientations; mitigates barriers to course enrollment.
Collaborates with advisors to review and certify the graduation clearance process every semester ensuring accuracy and integrity of official college graduation list submission.
Maintains knowledge of institutional policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations such as academic policies, degree requirements, and curriculum updates.
Represents advising in various committees, professional trainings, industry conferences, and conventions.
Reviews and approves documentation relating to projects, events, and needs specific to assigned area(s).
Understands department's role in accomplishing the University's mission.
Compiles and submits reports as required by management, state, local, and federal regulatory agencies.
Acts as liaison between department and internal or external customers.
Possesses advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software with strong proficiency in Banner, Goldmine, PeopleSoft, and institutional software systems.
Complies with all State and University policies.
Performs other duties that may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's objectives, policies, and applicable laws.

Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree
and
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in academic advising or related area with supervisory responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in related field and 5+ years of experience in academic advising or related area with supervisory responsibilities.
