Global Financial Initiatives & Integrity (GFII), within Corporate Controllership plays a critical role supporting Business and Finance driven initiatives by ensuring the ongoing integrity of the Company’s accounting and financial reporting (as required by AEMP 16, American Express’ internal management policy that defines a consistent standard for control and financial reporting requirements that must be established during any technology change). GFII is organized under the following three pillars: 1. Global Loyalty & Benefits, Network, & Banking; 2. Global AR, Merchant, & Enterprise Transformation; and 3. Strategy & GFII Program Management Office (PMO).

How will you make an impact in this role?

This role, Director - GFII Submissions & Enterprise Transformation, will form part of the Global AR, Merchant & Enterprise Transformation pillar in GFII and lead/develop a global team of professionals responsible for representing Finance’s accounting and financial reporting requirements in the Company’s technology modernization activities, high priority business initiatives, and new product launches.

The GFII Director is highly collaborative and detail oriented, with exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship building skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a global team with diverse skill sets and experiences, create an inclusive culture by understanding other's viewpoints and empower colleagues to ensure the achievement of shared team goals/priorities
  • Lead delivery of Finance requirements through the Agile lifecycle across Global AR, Merchant & Enterprise Transformation portfolios and/or other business processes (i.e., Remittances, Merchant submissions, Finance Cloud migration, etc.)
  • Provide strategic thought leadership to support modernization of global AR and Merchant platforms
  • Drive compliance with AEMP 16 through consistent approach to defining Finance and control requirements, producing robust project documentation and ensuring appropriate communication with key stakeholders and leadership
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships across Finance, Business, Product and Technology partners to drive positive outcomes for Finance and early engagement on initiatives
  • Understand end-to-end Finance processes and products and partner with Business, Technology, and Finance teams to drive prioritization and delivery of Finance requirements that enable transformation of Finance processes through increased automation
  • Manage the creation of testing strategies, test cases, test results, prioritization of defects and enhancements for initiatives
  • Enable Finance Modernization through strong partnership with Finance Product Owners
  • Execute strong project governance through effective change management, delivery of regular status updates to stakeholders and leaders, and proactive identification and communication of project and operational risks to leadership and key partners to remediate

Qualifications

  • Degree in Finance/Accounting and/or Information Technologies (master’s preferred)
  • 8+ years of work experience in Banking/Financial Services
  • Experienced in Agile delivery concepts or other project management methodologies
  • Understanding of US GAAP requirements and financial control principles and practices
  • Excellent people leadership skills with strong ability to model Amex leadership behaviors and build a diverse, inclusive team
  • Model collaboration and communication skills across peers, leaders, and stakeholders
  • Superior relationship building and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong fin-tech skills with experience defining system requirements, and designing and implementing Finance systems
  • Knowledge of testing approaches and application of controls in a technology environment
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, complex problem solving skills, and transformation mindset
  • Ability to convert strategic vision into clear project outcomes including skills to analyze highly complex processes, data volume and translate into project steps
  • Strong data analytics and system controls skills with ability to understand how these impact accounting and financial reporting processes
  • Ability to be flexible, prioritize multiple demands, and strategically influence in a matrixed organization

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
