The Stanford Alumni Association (SAA) has a mission to reach, serve and engage all Stanford alumni and students; to foster a lifelong intellectual and emotional connection between the university and its graduates; and to provide the university with goodwill and support. SAA believes that diversity and excellence go hand-in-hand and hires individuals committed to working effectively with colleagues and alumni from diverse backgrounds.

SAA is seeking an accomplished strategic leader with substantive sales experience to step into the newly developed role of Director of Revenue, Partnerships and Memberships. This role will be responsible for implementing a cohesive partnership development strategy to identify and advance new opportunities to drive growth, sustainability, and impact. It will also be responsible for managing SAA’s existing partnerships - all in alignment with SAA’s mission and goals. This position will also manage the alumni membership program at SAA, creating value for our members while working to grow our support base and help manage SAA product offerings. The Director will develop and manage a small dynamic team directly but will also lead in cross-functional development and delivery of product and program portfolios, working closely with SAA’s marketing, design and other teams.

The successful candidate will bring deep knowledge of identifying creative sponsorship and partnership arrangements, negotiating mutually beneficial arrangements, collaborating with disparate partners, consensus building, and developing marketing strategies. This position will report directly to SAA’s Chief Financial Officer and will be a member of the management advisory council.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the decision-making process to identify new sales opportunities and define the program/product strategy for SAA’s revenue team, which creates and continually improves upon the existing portfolio and marketing strategy.
  • Provide direction to other SAA staff and departments to implement the sales and business development strategy to meet SAA’s goals and objectives.
  • Drive change so that partnerships and programs continue to meet the needs of all stakeholders.
  • Manage the delivery and experience that leads to high customer satisfaction and advocacy for SAA partners and alumni members.
  • Oversee research and exploration activities that will guide strategic sales initiatives.
  • Manage key partner relationships with existing and new partners.
  • Prepare and manage revenue and expense budgets and variances.
  • Manage the work of other employees, make hiring decisions, provide coaching, training, and mentoring, manage performance, and determine staffing needs.
  • Demonstrate esprit de corps in support of other SAA programming and initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience developing new business opportunities.
  • Demonstrated sales and project/program management skills, including the ability to influence with and without direct authority and the ability to manage multiple projects/programs simultaneously.
  • The ability to work effectively with decision-makers across many levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated experience with various marketing elements (e.g. pricing, audience, channels, communication).
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex budgets requiring excellent analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting to senior management.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Skilled at developing a staff of professionals. Includes selection, motivation, and leadership of staff, as well as evaluation and development.
  • Sound judgment, the ability to analyze problems quickly and accurately, and the ability to develop practical and effective solutions to solve a variety of problems.
  • Advanced computer skills and demonstrated experience with office software and email applications.
  • Familiarity with Stanford University, SAA programs and/or travel experience preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle Financials, FileMaker, Microsoft, and Google Workspace a plus
