Job Summary

The Director of Student Life and Campus Engagement at Jackson State Community College will support the retention goals of the institution, creating a welcoming environment that engages students of all types through clubs, events, and other student opportunities. This position also serves as a central hub for campus-wide events, the student government organization, and other student groups at both the Jackson Main Campus and the Regional Centers. This dynamic role works with stakeholders across campus to provide consistent student programming that creates a sense of belonging for students and develops an affinity for the college during their time enrolled. The Director will work with employees to support campus sponsored events.

Job Duties

  • 30% - Program Development and Management: • Design and coordinate a variety of student activities, including cultural events, workshops, seminars, speakers, social gatherings, and leadership development programs. • Oversee the planning and execution of campus events such as orientation, welcome week, and other student-focused events. • Develop and manage budgets for student activities and events. • Ensure off-campus centers are included and supported through a robust student life and campus engagement plan - (Essential)
  • 30% - Student Engagement and Support: • Oversee the management and leadership of Student Government Association (SGA). • Serve as a primary point of contact for student organizations, providing guidance and support in their operations, event planning, and leadership development. • Advise and mentor student leaders, promoting their personal, academic, and professional growth. • Facilitate initiatives to increase student involvement and participation in campus life. • Coordinate community service and civic engagement opportunities for students. - (Essential)
  • 25% - Campus Engagement and Community Building: • Foster a sense of community and belonging across campus by creating inclusive and welcoming environments. • Collaborate with other departments, such as Academic Affairs, Career Services, and Counseling, to support campus and student engagement efforts across the college. • Promoting speakers, training programs, and other helpful resources - (Essential)
  • 10% - Assessment and Evaluation: • Create infrastructure and organization processes for campus engagement programming that includes centralization of relevant data, information, and resources (i.e., templates to plan events, student videos, FAQ, and shared communication.) • Collect and analyze data related to student engagement and program effectiveness. • Prepare reports and presentations on student life activities and outcomes. • Utilize assessment results to make data-driven improvements to programs and services. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Marketing and Communication • Work with Marketing & Communications and Office of Student Services to develop student activities and engagement strategies. • Create promotional materials and coordinate outreach efforts with Marketing & Communications to increase visibility and participation. • Create and/or collaborate and oversee efforts and materials on social media and in-person events Administrative Duties: • Maintain accurate records of student activities, budgets, and participation. • Ensure compliance with college policies and procedures, as well as relevant regulations and guidelines. • Assist in the development and revision of policies and procedures related to student life and engagement - (Marginal)

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from a Regionally accredited institution.
• 2+ years of experience in student affairs, student activities, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a community college setting.
• Knowledge of student development theory and best practices in student engagement.
• Experience with assessment and data analysis.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
• Experience in event planning, program development, and budget management.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

Pay Rate:  $71,528-$89,410 Annual salary depending on eligible experience which is defined by the current compensation plan.
