Description
- Inspect, maintain and diagnose automobiles, trucks, off-highway equipment, carts, specialty tools, and equipment.
- Maintain a variety of power plants including diesel, gasoline, hybrid, electric, and compressed natural gas.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance such as safety inspections, changing oil and filters, replacing brakes, and patching or replacing tires.
- Complete a variety of highly skilled mechanical repairs and maintenance on heavy vehicles and equipment including excavators, dump trucks, street sweepers, backhoes, and loaders.
- Overhaul, repair, and adjust engines, transmissions, differentials, hydraulic equipment, clutches, drive shafts, and u-joints.
- Fabricate, weld, and modify parts and equipment such as panels, brackets, light stands, equipment boxes, and battery boxes.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with vendors, City maintenance/repair personnel, City vehicle drivers and City equipment operators.

- Entry-level experience in automotive or heavy-duty vehicle maintenance.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills to work with City staff, contracts, vendors, and dealers.
- Mechanic knowledge including engine to electrical, heavy to light-duty vehicles, CNG, and alternative fuel systems.
- Class B commercial driver's license highly desirable.
- High school diploma or equivalent with vocational/technical training in vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair.
- Three years of vehicle/equipment maintenance and repair experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate California driver's license.
