Job Summary

Serve as Chief Operating Officer for the Gies College of Business Advancement Office assisting the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) with daily activities and strategic management. Provide vision and leadership for College's advancement infrastructure including supervision of stewardship and donor relations, alumni engagement, programs, data management, operations and activities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure that advancement activity in alumni relations and events is strategic and closely aligned with the College’s goals and priorities. Provide vision and strategic leadership for an integrated, college-wide alumni engagement program in support of the mission of the College. Assist the College, its departments, and units in implementing, building and maintaining broad alumni engagement that involves significant numbers of alumni.
  • Develop and implement improvements to the stewardship program for the College, expanding the impact of stewardship as part of the College’s development program. Review personalized stewardship plans for high-level donors and ensure robust, effective systems for stewarding multiple donors to general or specialized funds. Support the structuring of a corporate stewardship program for corporate gifts and individual donors who contribute to corporate-based giving programs.
  • In partnership with the Associate Dean of Advancement, develop plans, communications and systems in support of the Gies College of Business that encourage integration and success of all areas of advancement – stewardship, alumni engagement, major and corporate gifts, annual funds, communications, events as well as supporting business and administrative services.
  • Coordinate tactics for execution of key priorities for the Office of Advancement strategic plan, positively impacting the effectiveness of the college’s advancement efforts. Track progress towards annual goals. Create and document efficient, timely business processes.
  • Oversee advancement day to day operations including budget and human resource functions. Monitor the unit budget, and complete all annual budget requests and reports. Assist with drafting of position descriptions, determine roles and responsibilities and manage personnel matters. Coordinate training and onboarding as needed for new advancement operations staff. Organize and track all performance reviews.
  • Manage special projects as requested by CAO including but not limited to reports, analysis, and special events. Contribute to strategy and follow-up of all projects, including ongoing and new initiatives. Plan and manage regular advancement retreats. In absence of the CAO, manage the staff meetings. Represent the Office of Advancement as requested by CAO at campus meetings, events, or donor visits. Liaison with college, campus, university and foundation offices on behalf of Gies Business advancement.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree. Minimum of seven years of advancement or closely related experience. Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of development and alumni engagement. Prior supervisory experience and personnel management required, including delegating tasks and managing performance.

  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communications skills. Experience working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Ability to work in a professional and collegial manner with staff across the college and campus. Demonstrated project management skills.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the search close date. 

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. The budgeted salary range for the position is $120,000 to $135,000.
