Reporting Relationships
Reports to: Dean of Communications and Humanities.Supervision Exercised: Functional supervision may be exercised over student workers.
Job Summary
Teach assigned classes and perform related activities to classroom instruction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Related duties may be assigned.
- Meet classes at assigned times.
- Plan course content and assign appropriate course work.
- Maintain student records.
- Evaluate student progress and assign grades.
- Revise course outlines, objectives, and catalog information as needed.
- Select appropriate texts and teaching materials.
- Maintain office hours convenient for students.
- Prepare course/class reports as required.
- Attend and participate in conferences related to teaching area; membership in appropriate professional organizations is recommended.
- Submit budget requests and written narrative when appropriate.
- Keep abreast of developments in the field.
- Attend required meetings (faculty, division, in-service training, etc.)
- Assist in student learning outcomes assessment at the course, program, and institution level.
- Assist in short-range and long-range planning.
- Participate in division, college, advisory committees, and community activities.
- Involvement in department, division, and college initiatives.
- Participate in assessment of student learning.
- Assist in student program advisement, as needed.
- Assist in evaluating other divisional faculty members.
- Recruit students when appropriate.
- Assist in placement of graduates when appropriate
- The discipline of philosophy is part of the Communications and Humanities Division, a diverse academic division comprised of the Business, Composition and Literature, Humanities, Mass communications, Philosophy, and Speech disciplines.

Required Qualifications
- Master of Arts or PhD Degree or equivalent in Philosophy (requires a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Philosophy)
- Demonstrated competence in teaching World Religions
- Understanding of and commitment to the community college and its mission
- Community college teaching experience
- Experience in teaching courses in Philosophy curriculum
