Graduate Assistant - Library
Summary of Duties:
The Reference Graduate Assistant helps the library maintain and revise our extensive online research guide
collection and other instructional and reference resources. Works collaboratively with library staff to provide
circulation support and regular public services.
Additional projects as assigned.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintains or updates library research guides at direction of Reference & Instruction Librarian.
2. Assists with revision of print and digital instructional and reference materials.
3. Participates in circulation functions, including assisting in opening and closing the library.
4. Demonstrates excellent customer service skills.
5. Represents the library and provides library information at campus events.
6. Answers patron questions about library hours and services.
7. Assists with library administrative tasks as directed.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Collaborates with campus departments and personnel.
2. Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
3. Strong writer with excellent grammatical skills; able to craft public-facing content.
4. Works well as a member of a team and independently; ability to handle multiple demands and to work
under the direction of the librarian on duty.
5. Assists or guides undergraduate student assistants.
6. Does related work as assigned.
Selection Process Criteria:
1. During an interview, candidates should be able to speak to:
a. Ability to learn and effectively use an online content management system (CMS)
b. Ability to provide good customer service
c. Ability to learn library circulation system and policies
2. Candidates should include a short writing sample with their application (1 page or shorter).
