Job Summary

Harvard University’s Department of Art, Film, and Visual Studies (AFVS) seeks an experienced Curator to serve as the Interim John R. and Barbara Robinson Family Director of the Carpenter Center for Visual Arts (CCVA). The Carpenter Center for Visual Arts is housed in the only Le Corbusier building in North America.
 

This position a one-year term position.

Position Description

The Interim Director will implement the curatorial vision and artistic goals of the CCVA.  The successful candidate will oversee plans for existing exhibitions and programming while also developing future exhibitions.
 

The Interim Director of the CCVA will manage and balance the vision of the CCVA with curricular requirements while including faculty, visiting artists and student exhibitions.  This positionworks with faculty, visitors and students as well as the larger art community at Harvard to develop future exhibitions. 
 

This position works closely with CCVA staff and reports directly to the Chair of the AFVS department.  The Interim Director works closely with department administrative and financial staff.  This position is responsible for the financial oversight of all programming.   

Basic Qualifications

Candidates must have an M.A., M.F.A. or Ph.D., and 8 years minimum of curatorial experience.  Education may count towards experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Significant experience managing staff and working with institutions of higher learning are desirable.

Work Format Details

This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
