As a IT Director within the West Central Health District at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.
Job Responsibilities
This position will be based in Columbus and is Not a Remote position.
You will support the Department by utilizing your expertise to fulfill the following responsibilities:
- Lead activities in IT fields such as electronic data processing, information systems technology, and electronic security. Oversees the development and implementation of IT projects and initiatives. Directs subordinate managers and staff.
- Responsible for all aspects of IT including strategic planning, evaluation, development, implementation and administration of all systems and infrastructure.
- Ensure that proper practices are followed in the utilization of technology including federal, state, and local laws, industry best practices and well-established strategic plan/direction.
- Manage the development, daily operation and support of production information systems.
- Oversee the work of staff involved in programming, computer operations, vendor interface and/or support services.
- Ensure the overall security of our network, etc. and the telecommunications devices as well as security as it relates to HIPAA.
- Represent West Central Health District by attending relevant statewide meetings and represents the IT department at local district meetings.
- Must have the following abilities:
- Ability to provide on-site and/or remote technical support
- Ability to preform backup and recovery procedures
- Ability to improve operational efficiency
- Ability to install and maintain network components, computer hardware and applications
- Ability to evaluate existing systems and networks and make recommendations
- Ability to effectively problem solve and disseminate information across departments
- Ability to work with multiple levels of management and leadership
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND Three years of directly related supervisor/management experience OR Five years of directly related supervisory/management experience OR One year of experience at the lower-level Mgr., Information Technology (ITM020) or position equivalent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree preferred. Public Health experience. Experience with VHN, VoIP phone systems. Basic Network Troubleshooting skills, strong analytical skills, and technical understanding of networked data skills preferred.
Additional Information
All West Central Health District 7 employees are deemed essential workers in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event including but not limited to: staffing a shelter, working at a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or working at a Point of Dispensing site (POD). If you are called on to participate, you are required to report to the designated site as a condition of employment, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.

DPH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degree, diploma, licensure, etc.
