Linux Systems Administrator II
As a Linux systems administrator II, you will deploy, configure, and secure Linux servers using automation tools and custom-built scripts in physical and virtual environments. You will monitor, manage, and troubleshoot network-connected equipment to ensure optimal functionality while overseeing user accounts, file storage, and security permissions. You will be responsible for the review and enhancement of host security standards— including the analysis of security practices and recommendations for improvements to bolster overall security effectiveness. You will also analyze performance metrics, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to meet operational requirements.
In this role, you will develop and test recovery strategies and disaster procedures for server operating systems and their service components. You will collaborate with database administrators and web programmers to optimize deployments and ensure performance and compliance with standards, recoverability, and security. Your responsibilities will include the integration of SAN practices with server operating system deployment and recovery, the exploration of standards to enhance uptime and performance, and the management of records to ensure up-to-date documentation of configurations and services.
You will provide troubleshooting support to second and third-level support to technicians and system administrators and manage comprehensive documentation of services, configurations, customizations, and projects. You will also demonstrate outstanding problem-solving skills and attention to detail as the systems administrator.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field
- At least three years of experience in system administration, with a strong focus on Linux operating systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficient in the server kickstart process using TFTP, DHCP, and DNS for RHEL-based Linux distributions
- Experience in configuring, deploying, and monitoring a LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP)
- Proficient in scripting or programming, with experience in languages such as Bash, Perl, Python, or PHP
- Familiarity with MySQL database management, including monitoring, backups, querying, and performance tuning
- Experience with cloud computing and systems virtualization technologies
Certificates, licenses, and registrations:
- Red Hat certification (RHCSA) or equivalent combination of experience and education
Travel required:
- Less than 10%
Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
