The Managing Director of Strategic Partnerships and Development is in a key position to drive the advancement of BCBS Plans’ competitive position. This role has the responsibility for establishing and leading pioneering community partnerships, driving the development of new programs and services at BCBSA in partnership with external affairs and other BCBSA teams, and the execution and scaling of innovative national partnerships on behalf of BCBS Plans. The Managing Director will partner closely with the VP of Strategic Partnerships & Development, and the broader team, to lead all stages of identification, development, scaling, and management of pilots, programs, and partnerships that drive value to our members and Plans.
- Develop, negotiate, implement, and scale strategic partnerships with established and emerging entities to enable the success and market differentiation of the BCBS System
- Identify pioneering community and public health partnerships that distinguish BCBS in a leadership position in emerging impactful areas. Oversee business plan development and scale programs with these national partners across multiple Plans.
- Provide leadership and direction in monitoring and tracking of business results and impact of partnerships, including identification of key metrics, reporting and communications on an on-going basis
- Interaction with other BCBSA divisions and senior management, Plan executives, and other full range of industry executives (within and outside healthcare)
Education
- Required: Bachelor's degree in related discipline
- Preferred: Masters Degree in related discipline or equivalent experience
Experience
- A minimum of 8-10 years of related business experience
- Experience in effectively directing project team(s) in achieving stated objectives, strategic development and innovation advancement, and with negotiations and contractual agreements
Skills
- Record of incubating and leading broad healthcare initiatives
- Strong business acumen and vision, with demonstrated ability to develop and maintain business relationships
- Must be able to present oral and written collaboration opportunities, value proposition and business case in convincing, organized manner throughout the partnership development process
- An effective consensus builder, with ability to partner with companies and BCBS Plans and work through strategic and complex issues to arrive at value added conclusions which address the business needs
- Executive level communications skills; must be able to represent BCBSA to outside constituents and senior level Plan workgroups and be a thought leader
- Excellent problem solving and decision making skills, strategic thinking and vision
- Ability to lead and manage key partnerships that support system strategy and objectives
- Business relationship management skills: able to effectively influence peers outside of the division and at the Plans, both domestically and internationally
- Demonstrated negotiation skills in highly complex, multi-stakeholder environment
- Talent acquisition skills; ability to elicit the right subject matter expert contributions to ensure the business opportunities leverage the full value of the BCBSA and BCBS Plan talent
