Position Overview

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office is looking to hire a new Systems Administrator!

Please Note: To be hired for this position, you must reside in Oregon or Washington.

In this position, you’ll work within the Criminal Justice Information Systems Unit, and be responsible for the deployment, administration, maintenance, and diagnostics of systems used throughout the agency. You’ll monitor, analyze and maintain network performance, troubleshoot network problems and outages, and provide a reliable and secure network by establishing and enforcing configuration standards and policies. This position will regularly travel between MCSO-supported locations throughout the Metro Area, including the Technology Support Desk, our secure Corrections Facilities, Police Precincts, and other various work sites.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support network-based computing systems within MCSO.
  • Administer and support changing technology which may include the Axon stack of technology (body worn cameras, interview rooms, Axon mobile apps, and data sharing with other partner agencies also using the Axon stack of technology).
  • Create, maintain, and support user connectivity to applications like Exchange, SWIS, TeleStaff, NetMotion VPN, and other applications and systems used by MCSO and Non-MCSO Staff.
  • Support MCSO and other agency staff by answering Help Desk calls, including desktop support, desktop applications support, web application support, and desktop OS issues.
  • Perform lifecycle replacement of MCSO-supported hardware.
  • Work closely with vendors, contractors, management, and other IT departments to install, configure, test, update and implement new networking hardware and software.
  • Implement and maintain integrated programs (data security, firewall, web security, authentication systems) to protect the confidentiality of MCSO information resources.
  • Escalate and coordinate recovery and repair efforts with MCSO staff, management, vendors, and other technical support to ensure the restoration of failed systems in a timely manner to minimize or eliminate downtime.
  • Support the analysis, troubleshooting, and resolving of complex PC problems that are broad in scope and comply with MCSO agency standards.

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:

  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in information technology or a closely related field. (Additional experience may substitute for education.)
  • One (1) year of experience in information technology technical services is required.
  • Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license by the time of appointment.
  • Must pass a criminal records and employment references check.

Preferred Qualifications/Transferable Skills*: You do not need to have the following preferred qualifications/transferable skills to qualify. However, keep in mind we may consider some or all of the following when identifying the most qualified candidates.   • Experience installing, configuring, administering, and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows systems, including Active Directory, Windows File and Print sharing, Azure Active Directory and Windows Virtual Machines running on VMWare.
  • Working understanding of the principles of IP addressing, communication protocols, and domain name services and routing.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud Services, including hybrid exchange environments, Teams, and Sharepoint.
  • Basic automation experience, specifically deployment, recovery, or other manual processes.

  • Panel Interview: Virtual panel interviews will be conducted.
  • Hiring Interview: A select number of candidates will be invited to an in-person hiring interview in order of rank and score from the list of eligible candidates.
  • Jail Tour/Background and reference checks: A tour of the Multnomah County Detention Center or Inverness jail will be required, and a Personal History Statement will be completed online.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This recruitment may be used to fill full-time, part-time, temporary, limited-duration, and on-call positions.

Compensation: $51.03 - $62.81 USD Hourly

Type of Position: This hourly, AFSCME Local 88 union-represented position is eligible for overtime.

Location: This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule after the in-person training period at multiple locations has been completed. The incumbent should expect to work in-office the majority of the time. Starting work location will be Inverness Jail: 11540 NE Inverness Dr, Portland, OR 97220 The incumbent must reside in Oregon or Washington.

Schedule: Typically dayshift Monday - Friday, with rotating on-call for after-hours needs.
