Job Description:

The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Oregon State Hospital (OSH) is recruiting for a Pharmacy Tech 3 in Salem, Oregon to perform support tasks within the OSH pharmacy for the distribution of medications and pharmacy services which includes coordinating all inventory and distribution support tasks by assisting with pharmacy operations in a variety of domains, including patient financial services, pharmacy informatics, discharge voucher coordination and patient admissions/transfers/discharge processes.  All duties are performed under the professional direction and supervision of a registered pharmacist at all times, in accordance with state law. 

The Oregon State Hospital provides patient-centered, psychiatric treatment for adults from throughout the state who need hospital-level care. Our primary goal is to help people recover from their illness and return to the community. What will you do?

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will perform the following duties:

  • Assist with advanced inventory and compliance audits.
  • Utilize automated dispensing cabinets and integrated pharmacy electronic health records to optimize medication inventory.
  • Fill, deliver, and maintain medication inventory throughout the OSH hospital system.
  • Repackage medication from bulk containers into unit dose.
  • Assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medication orders.
  • Maintain auditing and compliance reporting which includes overriding medication dispensing, identifying controlled medication discrepancies or other inventory irregularities; monitoring and auditing cold-storage and specialty medication inventory for compliance; coordinating activities regarding novel/specialty medication settings and storage; and supporting ADC user access/setup with pharmacists informaticists and procurement specialist.
  • Monitor and coordinate support for all patients’ events such as admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Assist with preparation of pass or discharge prescriptions and outpatient medication processes.
  • Communicate with prescribers, nursing staff, social workers, and community partners regarding patient medication lists and ADT coordination.
  • Coordinate enrollment and processing of discharge medication vouchers.
  • Communicate with insurance and billing representatives.

What are we looking for?

Special Requirements

  • Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician through the Oregon State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Must maintain credentials with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT) or National Healthcare Association (ExCPT).

Minimum Requirements

Two years of progressively responsible experience performing support tasks in a hospital or institutional pharmacy for the distribution of medication and pharmacy services. 

Requested Skills

  • Experience working in a large health facility or hospital pharmacy.
  • Professional and diplomatic verbal and written communication skills required to interact with prescribers, nursing staff, social workers, community partners, and peers.
  • Experience understanding and utilizing laws, rules, and polices required to maintain compliance when performing audits.
  • Good understanding of insurance and billing processes and guidelines.
  • Ability to interact with the patient population in patient care areas and other OSH buildings.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams software applications.
  • Experience advancing health equity, addressing systemic health disparities, and collaborating with diverse, vulnerable, and underrepresented populations.
  • Ability to work hours that exceed regular weekly work schedule which could include working a double or alternate shift or working in a different location that may require travel.
