Reporting Relationships
Reports to: Dean of Mathematics & Sciences
Supervision Exercised: None

 

Job Summary
Teach assigned classes and perform activities related to classroom instruction.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Additional related duties may be assigned.

 

1. Teach lecture and lab components of various level Physics courses.

 

2. Utilize Rock Valley College’s chosen Learning Management System (LMS) for all grading, assignments, communication and student records.

 

3. Plan course content and assign appropriate course work.

 

4. Select appropriate texts and teaching materials.

 

5. Meet classes at assigned times.

 

6. Instruct students in the proper use of lab equipment where appropriate.

 

7. See that equipment and/or labs are properly maintained where appropriate.

 

8. Maintain supply and equipment inventory where appropriate.

 

9. Participate in assessment of student learning.

 

10. Maintain student records, evaluate student progress, and assign grades.

 

11. Prepare course/class reports as required.

 

12. Attend required meetings (faculty, division, in-service training, etc.).

 

13. Keep informed on the latest research and journal articles.

 

14. Adhere to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and any and policies or laws that govern higher education at Rock Valley College.

Minimum Qualifications

 

1. Master’s Degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Physics.

 

2. Education beyond the Master’s level is desirable, a Ph.D. is preferred.

 

3. Teaching experience in college-level courses is preferred.

 

4. Commitment to the community college mission.

 

5. Interest in involvement in division and college initiatives.
