What's in it for you?

The base salary for this position is expected to be at $52,000 - $75,000/year plus annual bonus, with the actual base salary amount dependent on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate's credentials, relevant experience, and primary job location, with consideration given to internal equity.

Summary

Responsible for financial transactions, balance sheet reconciliations, and reporting for a portfolio of residential and commercial properties. Partners with community leaders to support operations of the properties. Works on special projects, as assigned.

Expectations

Adheres to established policies and procedures while accurately calculating, posting, and reconciling financial data in a timely manner. Able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Creates and maintains property accounting records and files.
  • Records and posts financial transactions. Prepare journal entries and provide supporting documentation during the close; such as calculating, validating, and recording accruals and expenses, re-classes and adjustments.
  • Reviews and approves utility invoice coding prior to payment.
  • Maintains and confirms accuracy of recurring GL entries.
  • Completes month-end processing, including - but not limited to - completing bank reconciliations, analyzing gross potential rent, and recording monthly management fees.
  • Maintains, analyzes, and posts monthly expense accruals.
  • Analyzes and prepares month-end reports including variances to budget, prior month, and prior year.
  • Leads monthly financial review calls with Community Leaders and Regional Directors.
  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts to support ledgers. Ensure reconciling items are properly documented, resolved in a timely manner, and adjustments are prepared.
  • Responds to requests for property accounting information from Community Leaders and other internal customers.
  • Assists with preparing property budget information within accounting software.
  • Collaborate and partner with other teams to address issues.
  • Communicate regularly with operational business partners to identify issues and areas of improvement and share knowledge.
  • Understand transactional workflow, be knowledgeable about the sources of data, ensure data integrity and collaborate with relevant parties for necessary adjustments.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with occasional work schedule flexibility to work with others in different time zones.
  • Prepare audit schedules as requested, including the support documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.
  • Ensures compliance with US GAAP and applicable entity SOX controls.
  • Advise, support and guide site team members in preparing Yardi and Excel reports, depositing receipts, and processing security deposit refunds.
  • Monitor Yardi alerts dashboard for returned items, exception receipts and other deposit issues.
  • Calculates and records straight-line rent and CAM reconciliations.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in Accounting (B.A. or B.S.) and/or 2+ years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Certificates and/or Licenses: None

  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
    • Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
    • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
    • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
    • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Accounting software, preferably Yardi. Must be highly proficient with spreadsheet programs such as Microsoft Excel.
    • US GAAP and applicable financial statements, specifically a balance sheet and income statement.
