For more than six decades, Idaho National Laboratory scientists and engineers have helped solve some of the nation’s most pressing energy, environment and national security challenges. Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking candidates for the Russell L. Heath Distinguished Postdoctoral Research Associate Appointment. This appointment is awarded to early career scientists and engineers with interest in advancing the fields of nuclear energy, critical infrastructure protection, and clean energy deployment. Ideal candidates have exceptional talent, scientific track records, and potential for significant achievements. This appointment may support candidates represented broadly by the fields of nuclear engineering, material science, computational science, separations science, power engineering, wireless technology, or systems analysis.

The Russell L. Heath Distinguished Postdoctoral appointment provides up to two years of research support to the selected candidate with a possible one-year extension.

Distinguished Postdoctoral Associate Program:

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Attained Ph.D. in a science or engineering discipline that is closely related to INL’s mission.
  • Completed Ph.D. prior to distinguished postdoctoral appointment and within the previous five years.
  • Demonstrated leadership and potential for independent research.
  • Demonstrated oral and written scientific communication skills in English.
  • Applicants are encouraged to establish one or more research contacts at INL to support their application.

    • Development goals that include descriptions of strengths and disciplinary areas for research
    • Two pages maximum, 8.5-by-11- inch paper, single-sided
  • Current curriculum vitae
  • Unofficial transcripts
  • Bibliography of publications, preprints and significant presentations
  • Abstract of doctoral dissertation
  • Proposed research plan (maximum of two pages, 8.5-by-11-inch paper, single-sided) that includes:
    • Research to be addressed
    • Conjectures or hypotheses to be tested
    • Proposed methods of investigation
    • Guiding relevant theoretical frameworks
    • Research schedule
    • Major equipment needs and other necessary resources
    • Proposed conferences and journal publications
  • Three letters of recommendation (one preferred to be from Ph.D. advisor).
  • One or more research contacts at INL if possible.

Job Information: 

  • The target salary for this position is $109,752 Annually. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
