Primary Responsibilities
- Safely and effectively managing a 6:1:1 specialized classroom
- Engage students in activities that are interesting, meaningful and individualized to reflect each student's developmental level
- Effectively incorporating support staff into the classroom program
- Develop Individualized Education Plans ("IEPs") in accordance with current New York State Education and Gateway practice, procedures and policies
- Fulfill other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- New York State Certification in Early Childhood Education (B-2) and as a condition of future employment must be working toward, or be willing to pursue, appropriate Special Education certification in appropriate grade levels
- Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, compassion, patience, and active listening
- Ability to effectively work with individuals from a diverse array of cultural backgrounds, beliefs, customs, and lifestyles
- Ability to physically restrain if required
Preferred Qualifications
- New York State Certification in Special Education (B-2)
