Physical Requirements

This position requires field work in hot weather conditions and able to walk uneven terrain while carrying up to 50 pounds.
Some overnight travel may be required.
This position requires extended computer use while standing or sitting while in the office.

Job Summary

The Kentucky Geological Survey at the University of Kentucky seeks a summer Geologic Technician to work in the Western Kentucky Office in Henderson, Kentucky.

This position will work closely with a staff geologist to carry out a variety of tasks that may include:


  • Collection of downhole data (gamma-ray log, electrical conductivity and geological structure/fractures)
  • Collection and processing of groundwater elevation data
  • Installation of shallow piezometers
  • Water well sampling
  • And other tasks as needed



Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Experience with ESRI ArcGIS Pro software preferred along with basic computer applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
A valid driver’s license with 5 years of driving experience is preferred.

Preferred Education/Experience

Having a degree or earning a degree in geology, engineering, geography, or any natural science.
Course work/training in ESRI ArcGIS Pro software.
