Physical Requirements

Some lifting of boxes of boxes of lab supplies or equipment (max ~30 lbs), some periods of standing >1 hr, some periods of sitting at a microscope for 3-4 hrs.



Shift

Monday – Friday 9am – 5:30pm (flexible, including 30 min lunch break). Occasional weekend hours to set up experimental time courses for a total of no more than 40 hours/wk.



Job Summary

The College of Arts & Sciences is seeking a Lab Technician to support the research activities of a lab in the Department of Biology at the University of Kentucky.

The lab focuses on understanding the mechanisms behind the proper organization of the cytoskeleton, using chytrid fungi as an emerging model system and employing tools from cell biology and biophysics, with a particular emphasis on high-resolution light microscopy.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Research support (performing molecular and cell biological assays, preparing common lab reagents)
  • Administrative support (ordering and organizing lab supplies)
  • Lab maintenance (maintaining equipment and ensuring compliance with safety protocols).


There is also potential for this role to evolve into a part-time independent research project, depending on the applicant’s experience and personal goals.

Preferred Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Biology preferred. Experience in a research laboratory setting and/or experience in molecular biology, microbiology, or microscopy techniques preferred but not required.
