Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The System Administrator III, Windows maintains the integrity of the Windows Server OS environment. Responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining servers and server based applications including email, DHCP/DNS, automated services, Active Directory and SSO. Provides advanced operational support and technical oversight of critical systems. Researches, evaluates and recommends software and hardware products. Leads efforts in maintaining security and high availability of enterprise systems. This position is a member of a 24/7/365 global department.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists in installing, configuring, and maintaining server operating systems including

Email, server based applications and services

  • Performs operational support by monitoring performance and trends and compiles reporting and recommendations for management
  • Researches, evaluates and recommends software and hardware products
  • Configures and supports secure SSO for cloud services
  • Maintains the integrity of the server and Active Directory environment
  • Performs software installations and upgrades
  • Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Monitor for system vulnerabilities and derive/oversee action plans for applying patches or configurations
  • Ensures critical systems and configurations are highly available and backed up
  • Write and maintain technical and operational standard operating procedures for supported services
  • Investigates and creates action plans for technical issues involving complex systems and/or networks of systems
  • May have formal supervisory and/or coaching responsibility in a work unit. Establishes and leads project time lines or short-term goals, motivates others towards completion of tasks and assignments, helps others to think through alternatives and choices
  • Insures that team meets incident closure expectations and project time lines
  • Maintains tasks, projects and activities in the IT system of Record (S-NOW)
  • Understands and follows LSCS standard operating procedures
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

  • Ability to lead technical teams on large scale projects that may include vendors or staff outside of own work unit

  • Ability to write and present reports, contracts and/or proposals for internal and/or external audiences, interprets other viewpoints and assimilates them into work processes, formally transfers technical or administrative knowledge to others
  • Ability to convey technical or complex information to others in non- technical terms
  • Ability to document enterprise systems and procedures
  • Demonstrated decision-making guided by general instructions and practices requiring interpretation
  • Competent in developing scripted solutions to unique business needs
  • Ability to assist in formulating recommendations on difficult problems
  • Ability to serve as a mentor developmental advisor and/or training resource to new and less experienced staff
  • Ability to seek opportunities and set goals for own development
  • Ability to follow IT procedures to complete work, but may recommend changes to departmental processes
  • Ability to often prioritize own work; work is reviewed at key stages by manager/administrative officer or team, anticipates consequences of actions, potential problems, or opportunities for change
  • Technical experience in the following areas are needed, IIS administration,O365 administration, SCCM and/or SCOM, extensive experience in DNS and DHCP, backup and recovery, SQL, VMWare, Active Directory, Exchange as well as experience in EMC storage arrays

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
  • May regularly travel to different LSC locations
  • May be fully reassigned to other LSC locations if necessary
  • May need to work weekends and outside of core business hours if necessary

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 4 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Intermediate level certification in areas of responsibility

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced certification in area of responsibility
  • Programming experience with PowerShell, JAVA, HTML, PHP and others
Salary

Hiring salary range is $74,911 - $86,148

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
