
User Experience Designer
Position title: User Experience Designer
Reports to: Vice President of R&D
Department: Research & Development
In-Situ, Inc. is looking for an experienced, creative, and collaborative User Experience Designer who can keep the user at the center of our business while crafting high-quality, usable, and pleasurable experiences for a wide range of water instrumentation-related products, both physical and digital. Someone who can quickly get inside the user's head and know what motivates them instinctively understands how to design a good experience and what it takes to make that design a reality. In addition, someone who can advocate for increasing UX across the business.
As a User Experience Designer at In-Situ, you will receive direction from our User Experience Lead and be involved in the full range of UX design tasks: UI design, interaction design, information architecture, prototyping, wireframes, storyboards, design specifications, user research, and usability testing. In addition to design responsibilities, you will interact daily with software engineering, mechanical engineering, product management, and marketing teams to produce the most usable products in our industry.
Essential Functions:
- Lead design efforts from concept through implementation, including translating user requirements into highly usable applications in partnership with engineering and product management.
- Design wireframes, mock-ups, and interactive prototypes to effectively communicate the user experience of features to internal stakeholders and project team members.
- Ensure a consistent interactive experience across applications and devices.
- Facilitating onsite discovery and design workshops to bring clarity to our user problems and potential solutions.
- Analyze user experiences across our digital platforms (web and mobile) to uncover opportunities to encourage growth and development consistency.
- Conduct user research and usability testing to gather insights on pain points and opportunities for improvement.
- Support the maintenance of our internal design system.
- Ensure timely and quality delivery to development teams.
- Follow guidance from the User Experience Lead on the design system, design processes, team workflows, and company standards.
Requirements (in order of importance):
- UX is just a part of who you are, i.e., you can't stop seeing ways to make experiences better.
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with product managers and engineers to achieve desired result.
- Proven ability to create super usable and attractive designs and experiences, including both graphics and interaction.
- Willing to accept design input/critique from various team members.
- Borderline annoying attention to detail.
- Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time to perform end-user testing and research.
- Ability to effectively translate project requirements into workflows/prototypes/wireframes.
- Willing to push against obstacles in the way of a genuinely pleasurable user experience.
- Able to ensure designs are accurately carried out through the implementation stage.
- Excellent presentation, moderation, and user interview skills.
- Experience performing usability testing for desktop, web, and mobile interfaces.
- Experience with creation and using personas for design development.
- Bachelor's degree in User Experience design, HCI, visual design, or related field or 4+ years of related experience.
- Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
Desired:
- Exposure to industrial design and mechanical design.
- Experience with usability assessment of physical products.
- Solid understanding of responsive web design (theory and practice).
- Mobile app design experience (iOS and/or Android).
- Proficiency with Figma.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite products

Compensation will be commensurate with the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as alignment with market data and internal benchmarks.
- Salary Range: $85,000-$105,000
- Additional Compensation: Participation in a Company-sponsored variable compensation plan.
