We are seeking an experienced leader to join US Small and Middle Enterprises (SME) as Vice President, Field Account Development Team. The Vice President is responsible for business development and management of a portfolio of high-value existing small to mid-size customers and executing short- and long-term strategic sales plans inclusive of engagement target, customer experience, and other opportunities to support our clients. The incumbent will lead a team of 30+ colleagues located across the West states including; California, Arizona, Utah, Oregon, Washington and Nevada and will need to share a clear vision of success in a competitive and dynamic marketplace, while coaching and managing the team by demonstrating a high level of financial fluency, underwriting experience, and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • High level of Financial Fluency and understanding of the underwriting and risk process. Must be able to identify potential client engagement opportunities and drive results through creative problem solving and excellent leadership
  • Lead, mentor, motivate, and develop a team of field-based Managers and Directors of Account Development.
  • In partnership with Marketing, Global Commercial Analytics, Pricing, Performance & Insights, and Senior Leadership, develop and translate sales engagement and performance strategies into executable plans.
  • Initiate, develop and maintain executive level relationships and solid network of internal and external partners.
  • Collaborate with peers, partners, and senior leaders to drive long-term profitability for the channel as well as colleague engagement & retention.
  • Build and execute strategies to deliver on annual engagement plan, test and learn pilots and manage resource and operational challenges through capacity planning and best practices.
  • Develop a robust colleague experience strategy to meet the needs of the growth strategy and ensure high level of engagement and performance of the team; manage talent pipeline, diversity, hiring and attracting talent to the team.
  • Lead special projects and initiatives across the US SME segment and Global Commercial Services.
  • Ensure all aspects of the American Express Code of Conduct, and our Sales Practices policies, standard, and procedures, are adhered to so that we uphold the highest standards in our interactions with our customers and compliantly meet all regulatory requirements
  • Support Operational Excellence team in call monitoring processes to support high quality customer interactions.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Financial Fluency and understanding of the underwriting and risk process
  • Must demonstrate outstanding leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of the core principles and strategies of Commercial products (Small Business and Corporate) preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to build a focused team that delivers results with growth in a B2B selling environment.
  • Leads through trust, transparency, and collaboration to build highly engaged and compliance focused team.
  • Focused and results-oriented, innovative, strategic thought leader.
  • Partners and collaborates well with internal teams and business partners to identify opportunities and continue to improve product and experiences for clients.
  • Demonstrates a competitive, positive attitude, quickly adapts to different situations, and recovers from setbacks.
  • Understands at a tactical level market/industry key competitors, challenges, terminology, technology, trends, and regulation.
  • Ability to work in a Virtual Field-Based Working Model.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 5 – 10 years minimum, people leadership experience, preferably in a sales, account management or operations environment with a proven track record of driving results and team engagement while maintaining a high level of focus on compliance expectations.
  • Experience partnering with clients across various markets / industries
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry

Salary Range: $185,000.00 to $260,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
