Primary Responsibilities <ul><li>Safely and effectively managing a 6:1:1 specialized classroom</li><li>Engage students in activities that are interesting, meaningful and individualized to reflect each student's developmental level</li><li>Effectively incorporating support staff into the classroom program</li><li>Develop Individualized Education Plans ("IEPs") in accordance with current New York State Education and Gateway practice, procedures and policies</li><li>Fulfill other duties as assigned</li></ul> Required Qualifications <ul><li>New York State Certification in Early Childhood Education (B-2) and as a condition of future employment must be working toward, or be willing to pursue, appropriate Special Education certification in appropriate grade levels</li><li>Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, compassion, patience, and active listening</li><li>Ability to effectively work with individuals from a diverse array of cultural backgrounds, beliefs, customs, and lifestyles</li><li>Ability to physically restrain if required</li></ul> Preferred Qualifications <ul><li>New York State Certification in Special Education (B-2)</li></ul> We want to emphasize that the preferred qualifications are not required and that we are committed to helping our future colleagues develop these preferred skills.
