Job Title: Sr. Solar Engineer Job Duties: Sprague Resources GP, LLC in Portsmouth, NH is seeking a Sr. Solar Engineer to lead the design and development of new Solar Tanks installed at Sprague facilities. Individuals will apply advanced theoretical knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering principles and concepts, as well as experience with PV solar engineering design to perform the following duties: Coordinate and manage solar tank design projects. Independently review and guide the work of junior Solar Engineers. Be a senior team member working to develop solar tank designs to offset energy use at Sprague as well as the development of solar tank projects within the terminal storage industry. Develop single &amp; triple line diagrams, cable sizing requirements, solar panel layouts on structures and open ground areas. Prepare complex engineering calculations, BOQs, and procuring electrical equipment. Independently conduct site visits to analyze existing energy systems and interconnection points to provide feedback and suggestions. Oversee the design of solar arrays to function on top of storage tanks and other structures. Prepare complex engineering calculations such as: load flow, short circuit and reactive capability analysis (ETAP or SKM), Arc flash analysis (ETAP or SKM), Cable ampacity study (CYMCAP or equivalent), grounding analysis, AC-DC voltage drop calculations, VOC/ISC calcs, and AC/DC Cable sizing. Provide Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for estimating budgets, and review with construction/installation teams. Develop procurement specifications for major equipment, including, but not limited to: solar modules, trackers, racking piles, inverters, transformers, SCADA, cable, cable management systems, etc. Assist junior team members to organize and optimize equipment and material quantities. Communicate with other Sprague departments to ensure an efficient installation process. Manage the interconnection applications for each new and existing solar projects. This position reviews and guides the work of junior level employees, but does NOT involve any management (i.e. hiring, firing, termination, discipline, compensation, or performance reviews). Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or any related Engineering field of study, plus at least two (2) Year(s) of experience in any related position(s) in which the required experience was gained. Position requires Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). To include automation and updates with zero downtime.</li><li>Integrate security tools and practices into CI/CD workflows to detect and mitigate risks early.</li><li>En</li></ul>Monitoring and Incident Response:<ul><li>Set up and maintain monitoring and logging solutions to detect and respond to incidents in real-time.</li><li>Collaborate with security teams to investigate and remediate security incidents and breaches.</li></ul>Collaboration and Communication:<ul><li>Work closely with development, operations, and security teams to ensure seamless integration of security practices.</li><li>Provide training and guidance to team members on security best practices and DevSecOps methodologies.</li></ul>Infrastructure as Code (IaC):<ul><li>Utilize IaC tools (e.g., Terraform, ARM, CloudFormation) to manage and provision infrastructure.</li><li>Ensure infrastructure is secure, scalable, and compliant with customer requirements.</li></ul>Risk Management:<ul><li>Identify and address potential security risks and vulnerabilities throughout the development lifecycle.</li><li>Implement risk mitigation strategies and conduct regular risk assessments.</li></ul>Compliance and Documentation:<ul><li>Ensure all systems and applications comply with relevant regulations and standards (e.g., NIST, FISMA, RMF).</li><li>Maintain comprehensive documentation of security practices, procedures, and incident response plans.</li></ul>Performance Optimization:<ul><li>Optimize performance and scalability of applications and infrastructure.</li><li>Conduct performance testing and implement improvements as needed.</li><li>Auto scale Kubernetes clusters, implement microservice architecture.</li><li>Adapt software for federation and extensibility to other frameworks.</li></ul>Research and Development:<ul><li>Stay current with emerging technologies and security trends.</li><li>Evaluate and integrate new tools and technologies to enhance the security posture of systems.</li></ul>Disaster Recovery and Organization Continuity:<ul><li>Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans and organization continuity strategies.</li></ul>Software Development Support:<ul><li>Assist in the design, development, and deployment of secure software solutions.</li><li>Ensure security is considered throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC).</li></ul><h4>Qualifications</h4>Required:<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 5+ years of professional development experience or a master’s degree with 3+ years of professional development experience.</li><li>Proven experience with modern OO programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C++, Rust) within agile development frameworks.</li><li>5-years’ experience as a DevSecOps or Platform Engineer</li><li>Experience with implementing Infrastructure as code (IaC)</li><li>Proficient with setting up monitoring and logging systems</li><li>Working knowledge of AWS and/or Azure cloud services, with hands-on experience in cloud deployment and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).</li><li>Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently on assigned tasks with minimal supervision.</li><li>Previous government technology experience</li><li>Ability to debug, optimize code, and automate routine tasks</li><li>Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with effective communication skills and a sense of drive</li><li>Demonstrated experience building continuous, automated build and deploy pipelines.</li><li>Demonstrated experience in conditional procedure of build and deploy pipeline based on security scans of source and artifact.</li><li>Capable of working with software development team and platform infrastructure team to provide meaningful guidance to both for code development and deployment.</li><li>In-depth knowledge of version control of release artifacts to facilitate upgrade rollout and rollback.</li><li>Strong understanding of containerization of web applications.</li><li>Understanding and familiarity with container orchestration engines such as K8s (EKS, AKS, GKE, Kops, OpenShift)</li><li>Demonstrated Experience with AWS Code Pipeline / Code Deploy</li><li>Experience with bash shell scripting.</li><li>Willingness to pursue a U.S. Government TS/SCI security clearance (including CI/Poly if required).
