As a department, Campus police are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at the Hardin Valley Campus, and answer the emergency calls to 865.694.6649 at any hour.&nbsp;
Per TCA 49-7-118 “Campus police officer” means a person commissioned by an employing institution, school, or board and rendered an oath to provide police services, enforce law, exercise arrest authority and carry firearms, and thus is subject to the Tennessee POST commission.
In addition to safety at the college, campus police officers offer other services to students, visitors and employees:

Police officers are assigned to day shift and/or evening shift hours. Police officers do not work on-call schedules, weekends or overnight shifts. The shifts run daily from the earliest time of 0700 hours to the latest time of 2230 hours.&nbsp; Police officers work a 37.5-hour work week, and overtime is rarely, if ever, required.&nbsp; Police officers are not required to work during administrative closing days due to winter break or inclement weather, and these administrative closing times do not require use of personal leave hours. Campus police leadership strives to maintain a great work-life balance for all officers, and police officers frequently go months or years without receiving phone calls from campus while off-duty.&nbsp; Police officers on campus are supported by security guards who can help with minor requests for service, such as door unlocks or battery boost requests.&nbsp;
Position Summary: The overall purpose of this job is to ensure a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors of the college.&nbsp;
Essential Functions:
30% Patrols college grounds and adjacent areas on foot and in motor vehicle to deter crime. Enforce Tennessee State Laws and policies and guidelines set by Pellissippi State Community College, the Tennessee Board of Regents, and the U.S. Department of Education’s Higher Education Act. ​Apprehends criminal offenders and effect arrests as necessary. Maintains all department issued equipment.
25% Conducts investigations into criminal activity, motor vehicle accidents, illness and injuries. Prepare Police police reports, motor vehicle accident reports, and reports documenting illness or injury. Prepare records for court and testify at judicial hearings and trials. Monitors and reviews security camera recordings to assist in investigations and to ensure safety for the campus community. Performs additional clerical tasks as required.
10% Provides direction, supervision and training for contract security guards. Trains PSCC contract security guards on proper patrol techniques, unlocking and locking down college buildings, conducting basic investigations and report writing, and emergency plans and procedures. ​
10% Inspects college property for safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, unsecured doors or other unusual events. Unlocks doors to classrooms, offices and other secured areas of the college for authorized persons. Provides vehicle unlock and jump starts service to the campus community.
5% Perform tasks related to emergency incidents, emergency drills, and the college Emergency Response Plan. Provides mutual police assistance, upon request, to local police agencies to assist in large scale emergencies. ​
5% Provides first aid and direction in emergency situations and coordinates emergency response by EMS, fire, and outside police agencies. Inspects and ensures proper operation of emergency and security related equipment.
5% Monitors meetings between college officials and students or employees to ensure personal safety. Provides employee termination escorts, personal safety escorts, and security for special events other special security needs.
5% Monitors traffic flow and parking conditions and directs traffic as necessary. Issue tickets for parking and moving violations as per college Parking and Traffic Regulations and Tennessee State vehicle and traffic regulations.
5% Maintains P.O.S.T. (Tennessee Police Officer) certification by attending specialized annual training. Attends additional training for professional development.

Requires one-year experience as a Peace Officer Standards Training (P.O.S.T.) certified Police Officer with current P.O.S.T. certification (fully qualified pay level).

One year police experience as a POST certified police officer (certification not current) with the ability to obtain recertification within six-months of initial employment as a police officer (probationary pay).

The police officer is required to meet the physical standards set by the TN P.O.S.T. Academy and Commission. The TN P.O.S.T. Commission requires police officers to complete 40 hours of In-Service training annually after initial P.O.S.T. certification. Manual dexterity is required for personal protection, weapons retention and proper use of authorized weapons. The police officer is required to wear a ballistic vest under the authorized uniform and a duty belt around their waist that supports their firearm and holster and other required equipment. The total weight of the ballistic vest, firearm and other equipment weighs approximately 25 pounds. ​The police officer is required to be able to stand on their feet for long periods of time, walk long distances around campus and climb at least three flights of stairs without becoming exhausted. Police officers are required to occasionally assist in lifting injured or aided persons and police equipment and office supplies.

Job Summary
This is a full-time, fiscal year position working under direct supervision of the Police Supervisor (Captain) and general supervision of the Associate Director of Public Safety.
The Police Officer 1 investigates crimes and accidents, protecting faculty, staff, students, visitors, and property, facilities by law enforcement. He/she responds to calls for assistance including emergency crisis situations and provides other safety related services. He/she must be flexible to work different shifts if and when deemed necessary.
Job Duties
<ul>
<li>Assures building security, traffic control, parking lot management, and patrol readiness for crime and hazards.</li>
<li>Patrols the campus/specific area by foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle/motorized conveyance.</li>
<li>Issues citations for traffic and parking violations.</li>
<li>Responds to radio and telephone calls; electronic alarms such as fire alarm, personal injuries and crime in progress.</li>
<li>Investigates suspected crimes, report findings, and arrests suspected individuals.</li>
<li>Monitors, notes, reports, and investigates suspicious persons and situations, safety hazards, and unusual or illegal activity in patrol area.</li>
<li>Investigates accidents involving persons or property and the probable cause of accidents, and pursues appropriate course of action.</li>
<li>Directs and controls traffic.</li>
<li>Testifies in court or legal proceedings</li>
<li>Operates and maintains law enforcement equipment.</li>

Minimum Qualifications

<li>Meets the requirements of TCA 38-8-106, Qualifications of Police Officers:

General Function:&nbsp;
First Responder Course Coordinator/Instructor shall mean an individual responsible for the overall coordination of the First Responder Program. The individual shall act as a liaison between the sponsoring agency, students, the local medical community and the Division of The individual is also responsible for the delivery of didactic material, demonstration of the psychomotor skills, and verification of skill proficiency.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Currently licensed as a Tennessee EMT-Basic or Paramedic without history of revocation, denial, or suspension of licensure and nominated by a sponsoring EMS agency.
2. Must be certified as a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Instructor.
3. Pre-Hospital Experience: Minimum of one year practicing in the pre-hospital environment in Tennessee.
4. Letter of recommendation from sponsoring EMS agency.
Authorization renewal shall be contingent upon:
1. Maintaining current Tennessee licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician Basic or Paramedic without disciplinary action.
2. Maintaining current CPR instructor endorsement.
3. A letter of recommendation for reauthorization from the sponsoring EMS agency.
4. A letter of recommendation for reauthorization from the Regional EMS Consultant. 5. Completion of an EMS Board-approved Instructor Course.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:

<li>Teach courses as assigned in accordance with the catalog description and the approved course syllabus; Teach dual enrollment classes at area high school as assigned; Travel to multiple campuses as assigned</li>
<li>Collaborate collegially with faculty, Department Lead, and curriculum chair about curricular and programmatic issues and needs</li>
<li>Collaborate collegially with faculty, administration and staff to support the students, strategic plan, goals and business operations of the college; Work collegially as part of both discipline-specific and multidisciplinary teams</li>
<li>Stay abreast of current developments in the teaching discipline including scholarship, creative research, disciplinary and interdisciplinary activities that focus on the boundaries of knowledge, community-based scholarship, creative activities, and the development of cutting-edge teaching approaches</li>
<li>Teach up to 12credit hours per semester as assigned</li>
