Bachelor’s degree in a qualifying field, or an associate degree in a qualifying field with certifications, or an Associate degree in a qualifying field and 5 years applicable work experience. All qualified applicants must hold or have held a professional license from the NRC as a Senior Reactor Operator or Senior Reactor Operator Certification with at least 5&nbsp;years of experience in the field. Qualifying fields are Chemical, Mechanical, Nuclear Engineering or Engineering Technology or Nuclear Power Operations. Experience with GPWR Nuclear Simulation Software and NUCP certification are a plus. Ability to write operating procedures based on engineering and technical specifications is needed.

The Student Help STARS Tutor is a Grant Funded, part-time, temporary position for current Southwest Tennessee Community College Students and will tutor K-3 grade students in reading. Every tutor must relate well to children, possess good oral communication skills, and perform related tasks as assigned. The Southwest STARS (Saluqi Tutors Achieving Reading Success) Program is a reading tutoring program led by Southwest Tennessee Community College in partnership with local educational agencies, specifically Libertas School of Memphis, Promise Academy, and Capstone Education Group. Recent legislative changes will impact potential fourth grade level retention based on a student’s third grade English Language Arts (ELA) TCAP scores. As a result, this grant will provide key early interventions to move students from scoring Below or Approaching grade level to Met or Exceeded. Each student should be tutored for two hours per week for 18 weeks and totaling 36 hours of tutoring instruction. At the end of the tutoring semester, students should be able to score a proficiency in their reading test.
Job Duties

<li>Tutor assists elementary aged children in the development of reading skills.</li>
<li>Tutor students in one-on-one or small group sessions.</li>
<li>Tutor will collaborate with the program coordinator to assess the student’s needs and how best to address them.</li>
<li>Tutor is required to complete competency training prior to work starting as a tutor.</li>
<li>Tutor must provide his/her own transportation.</li>
<li>Unexcused and excessive absences or unsatisfactory performances will be grounds for dismissal.</li>

Compensation and Hours
Each applicant must be able to commit to working a minimum of 4 hours over 2 days per week, going up to 16 hours over 4 days per week, serving up to 3 students&nbsp;per hour and up to 24 students per semester. The hours for tutoring are flexible but should occur in the morning, early afternoon, or after school.
Each hour will be spent with the students, though a small part of each hour is devoted to preparing, wrapping up, and record keeping. Tutoring will take place in either a Southwest Tennessee Community College campus/center or one of the partner schools. Tutors must arrange their work schedules with the tutoring program coordinator.
Tutoring wages are $28 per hour.

SI leaders are essentially study group leaders.&nbsp; The group study sessions are commonly referred to as "SI sessions."&nbsp; This position requires the SI leader to have excellent communication and instructional skills to adapt his/her teaching style to meet the needs of a group of students. The SI leader is regularly required to implement instructional activities in group tutoring sessions.
&nbsp;ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
<ul>
<li>Work in small groups with students to provide them with academic tutoring to improve their understanding, at all levels&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>
<li>Use various teaching strategies, methods, and techniques to tutor</li>
<li>Log records of sessions</li>
<li>Attend a mandatory SI lead training at the beginning of semester</li>
<li>Monitor students and maintain a safe learning environment during program activities</li>
<li>Help students improve their studying skills</li>
<li>Motivate and support students through positive feedback and reinforcement</li>
<li>Contribute to the college-going culture through informal mentoring with students</li>
</ul>
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
<ul>
<li>Attend two weekly lecture classes for which he/she is an SI leader (accounts for about 2 hours and 40 minutes each week)</li>
<li>Attend one lab each week (accounts for 1 hour and 10 minutes each week)</li>
<li>Plan for both of his/her SI study group sessions (accounts for 2 hours each week)</li>
<li>Leads two SI group study sessions per week (accounts for 2 hours each week)</li>
</ul>

JOB STANDARDS/QUALIFICATIONS
<ul>
<li>High School diploma or in-progress.</li>
<li>Proficiency in use of Google Suite and Microsoft Suite.</li>
<li>Community college experience and knowledge of Banner software preferred.</li>
<li>Have A's in the coursework (General Biology or Anatomy and Physiology I or Microbiology) that you are going to tutor in</li>
<li>Be available to work a minimum of 8 hours a week</li>
<li>Be able to communicate clearly and have excellent social skills</li>
<li>Be enrolled in a college or university, preferred</li>
<li>Be able to collaborate with teachers, and students</li>
</ul>

      Supplemental Instruction (SI) Tutor
    

Title: TRiO Tutoring - Peer Tutor, Tutor I, Tutor II, Tutor III (Temporary Part-Time)
Position Summary: To increase student success and retention through collaborative learning.
Department: PSCC-TRiO Student Support Services
Location: The location will depend on which campus the SI/Peer Tutoring supported class is taught. Hardin Valley campus will use the SI Room, Peer Tutoring Math Lab, and/or Study Rooms in the ERC. Other locations vary.
Pay Rate: Amount of pay per hour according to academic level. • Peer Tutor (Student Employment Program) $13.00 – no experience; $14.00- 6 months experience; $15.00- 9 months experience • Tutor I (Less than 1 year experience) $15.38 • Tutor II (1-3 years of experience) $17.00 • Tutor II (3+ year &amp; experience) $19.00
Duties and Responsibilities: 1. 80% Tutor students individually and in groups.
2. 5% Complete tutor training activities.
3. 5% Confer with other tutors and teachers to resolve students’ problems.
4. 10% Complete documentation of tutoring activities.

Required Qualifications:
Peer Tutor – High School diploma or equivalent and completion of tutored subject area with a grade of “B” or better.
Tutor I -Completion of tutored subject area with a grade of “B” or better.
Tutor II –Completion of tutored subject area with a grade of “B” or better.
Tutor III –Completion of tutored subject area with a grade of “B” or better.
